Email is the support channel for every app published by RARankin, LLC. Messages are read and answered by Robert Rankin.

When reporting a problem, it helps to include the app name and version, your device and OS version, and what you saw compared to what you expected.

OpenEVSE

OpenEVSE is a local-network companion app for OpenEVSE charging stations. Your phone talks directly to the charger over your own WiFi network; there is no account to create and no server in between. That also means the app can only reach the charger when the phone and the charger are on the same network.

If the app cannot find your charger

Check you are on the same WiFi network as the charger. A phone on cellular data, on a guest network, or on a separate IoT VLAN cannot reach the charger. Guest networks in particular usually block device-to-device traffic entirely.
Allow local network access on iOS. Discovery needs the Local Network permission. Open the iOS Settings app, find OpenEVSE in the app list, and make sure Local Network is switched on. If you declined the prompt the first time, this is where you turn it back on.
Run the in-app Connection check. The app includes a Connection check that tests each step in turn — network, discovery, and the charger’s own response — and tells you which step is failing. Start there before anything else; it usually names the problem directly.
Confirm the charger is on the network. If the charger itself has dropped off WiFi, no app will find it. Check the charger’s display or its access-point mode, and re-run the setup wizard if it needs to rejoin your network.

If the Connection check passes but something in the charger’s interface behaves oddly, that interface is served by the charger’s own firmware. Note the firmware version along with your report.

Setup

The app includes a native setup wizard for putting a new or reset charger onto your WiFi network. Follow it from start to finish rather than switching networks manually part-way through.

Overwatt

Overwatt is a cloud-backed app for monitoring EV charging. It uses an account, so sign-in problems, data questions, and account deletion requests should go to the support email above. Include the email address on the account so the request can be matched to it.
